A New Pizzeria in the Whiteaker

My family and I were excited to head down to the Whiteaker last Friday night to try the Pizza at the newly opened Slice Pizzeria and Bar. Things were running very smoothly for a soft opening. To order we went to the front counter and chose from 8 different options of slices available, I ordered the Chicken BBQ and Spinach Mushroom (Fungus Among-Us), and my wife had the Margherita Pizza. We also have an 18 month old boy named Orion who had the Cheese Pizza. We got our food fast and were able to sit outside to enjoy a nice autumn evening! They were playing a variety of seventies music to set the mood for fun place to hang out. There was also a full bar staffed by 2 bartenders to make crafted cocktails off of their menu. The food was great, and they had vegetarian and vegan options. We had a good time there and enjoyed the atmosphere, I hope this place becomes a mainstay in the Whiteaker Neighborhood. For more information go to their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SliceEugene/ and be sure and vist them at their official Grand Opening this weekend October 11th-14th!

A Complete Guide to the Whiteaker – Bars & Restaurants

I received so much feedback from my first article, most of it being on how many extraordinary places I had left out. The first article was a few mentions of my favorite places to visit in the Whiteaker. This is a more of a complete guide to everything that is available in the neighborhood.

The Beergarden is the quintessential place to get a beer, with over 42 beers on tap you’ll be sure to find your favorite. They are also are home to 3 of your soon to be favorite food carts The Zingaro, Sporks A La Cart, and Loni Moku Grill. Communal tables with indoor or outdoor seating. Beergarden has become a favorite spot to get a beer, or glass of wine. Explore all of their food cart options here http://www.beergardenme.com/food-carts/

Blairally Vintage Arcade

Blairally is just what it sounds like, a vintage arcade with all of your favorite games from the 80’s. Such as Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Ski Ball, and Pin Ball. This is by far the most family friendly establishment I have mentioned so far, up until 9pm you can have children with you. They have ample room to run around and discover the popular games of your youth while you relax and sip on a cocktail or 2. The neighborhood always seems to show up to their 80’s night dance party every Friday night hosted by local dj’s, it’s always a lot of fun. Check here for a schedule of upcoming events https://www.facebook.com/blairallyarcade

Old Nicks Pub

Old Nicks is a friendly neighborhood bar located on the edge of the Whiteaker neighborhood. If you are looking for rock or punk rock music, I think you will be happy here. They have a full bar and a great menu for treats and eats. Check here for upcoming shows http://www.oldnickspub.com/calendar

Sam Bond’s Garage

Sam Bond’s is by far the oldest of these establishments, a true neighborhood bar it is a unique experience. It has all the feel of a neighborhood tavern, but with local artists hanging their works, and a menu that is health conscious. It is truly evolved to be more than just a pub. If you would truly like to catch the magic of Sam Bond’s go for Monday night Bingo hosted by Tom Heinl. This is a local tradition that has been carried on since Sam Bond’s has opened in 1995. Get there early around 8pm or it will be hard to find a seat. Visit http://www.sambonds.com/ for more info.

Inside Oakshire you will experience a friendly staff in a rustic environment that is kid friendly. Stop by on a Friday evening and you will see local acoustic musicians playing for no cover. Fishermans Market

Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Fisherman’s Market has been serving the Eugene area since 1989. Ryan and Debbie Rogers own and operate the Market. They are just some regular folks who happen to love cooking, love fishing and excel equally at both trades. Both Ryan and Debbie are long-time Alaskan fishermen and handle Fisherman’s Market when they’re not fishing in Alaska. Because they have been commercial fishermen for so long the Ryans have developed a lot of strong connections with other skilled fishermen in the industry and pass the benefits on to their valued customers. The Market features a vast selection of the freshest seafood available—often delivered from the boat by the Fisherman’s Market F-350 pickup truck, powered by recycled veggie oil from the Market’s fish and chips fryers. Even if you want to cook at home, stop by and take advantage of the freshest seafood in Eugene! http://eugenefishmarket.com/

Their tasty burritos and bowls, soups, salads, smoothies, juices, and homemade cookies will be among your favorites. Through their own mixture of fresh, healthy food; a fun, quirky ambiance; and a daily dose of laughter and inspiration, Laughing Planet is more than a meal. Venture inside a Laughing Planet and in mere seconds, you’re transported to a lively, friendly world. Every café is a meeting spot, and a place to sit and talk with friends. They also have a collection of dinosaurs for the kids to play with which makes this a great spot to grab lunch with the whole family. My favorite is the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla with a side of sour cream and guac. Which one will be your favorite? https://laughingplanetcafe.com/menu/

Where East meets Country and Western, Meiji is a unique restaurant basing it’s theme on combining eastern food themes with western charm. They have a Cowboy Karaoke night, and if you look in the jukebox you will see names such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash. They have one of the best crafted cocktail menu’s in town. My favorite is the Bourbon and Ginger made with a house pressed gingerade. Although the menu has many Japanese themed items such as sushi rolls, miso, and Kushiyaki. I always get their famous hamburger, topped with Japanese pickles and a creamy wasabi mayo, it is my favorite hamburger in Eugene. Check out everything Meiji has to offer here http://www.izakayameiji.com/
